Zúca Zúca Adventures

Seven adventurers, wielding cultural powers, embark on global missions to help those in need.

ZZA is a children's book series about a group of characters with extraordinary abilities rooted in cultural aspects who embark on thrilling missions with their airship to help communities in need. The series emphasizes friendship, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. Additionally, it celebrates and represents diverse cultures authentically, aiming to fill the representation gap in children's storytelling.

I wanted to dedicate the first book of the series to my mother’s hometown on the island of Puerto Rico, Juana Díaz. This town is important to islanders as it is the place where the annual Three Kings Day parade, or parranda, is held. On January 6th, Puerto Rico celebrates Three Kings Day (El Día de Reyes) which commemorates the visit that the Three Wise Men paid to Jesus after his birth. To seek inspiration, I captured a series of photos from my visit to Juana Díaz during my last trip to Puerto Rico.
